This limited edition, signed, linocut print features London's iconic new Routemaster and the Houses of Parliament in the background.
Paul Catherall was commissioned by Transport for London to design three posters depicting London's new bus - the New Routemaster - in iconic locations in the capital.
Paul Catherall is a London-based printmaker and illustrator. He has become renowned for his clean, sharp linocuts of architectural landmarks, exhibiting at numerous solo and group shows, as well as his figurative illustrations for high-profile clients. Drawing inspiration from classic mid 20th Century poster design, propaganda art from the Soviet era and the work of artists including William Nicholson, Catherall combines an expert eye for composition and colour with consummate draughtsmanship to create striking and iconic images. Transport for London has been a regular and enthusiastic commissioner of his work.
Catherall's architectural prints focus on structures that are part of the everyday urban environment. The subjects of his prints have included controversial London buildings such as the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, The National Theatre and Telecom Tower, as well as celebrated landmarks such as the Battersea Power Station, Tate Modern and New York's Flatiron and Brooklyn Bridge. In Catherall's work these are all strikingly unique architectural constructs served by natural light, which constantly transforms their shapes and silhouettes.
