Alfred Leet designed posters for the Underground Group between 1915 and 1928.
Alfred Leet who was born in Northamptonshire in 1882 was the son of a farmer and had no formal art training. He became a humorous illustrator, contributing cartoons to magazines as well as illustrating books, including The Worries of Wilhelm, published in 1916. His Lord Kitchener poster `Your Country Needs You' (1914) first appeared on the cover of the weekly magazine 'London Opinion' before being adapted to be used as a poster. It is the best-known war poster of all time and has inspired many adaptations.
