This striking image depicts an oast house on a hop farm, a familiar sight in the Kent countryside. The intensity of the reds, yellows and oranges indicates that the warm summer sun, which appears to radiate from the poster, is setting. Dorothy Dix was a landscape painter who designed posters for the Underground Group in 1922. Dorothy Dix met George Dix when a student at art school. He later designed the large ceramic map at Victoria Station and went on to teach art. In 1931 she exhibited 'Evening in a Cotswold village' and in 1947 'Winter cheer' in the Royal Academy Summer exhibition. She lived in Wandsworth, London.
