A Christmas Poster advertising travelling on the Underground over the Christmas period, by suggesting even Father Christmas has decided to travel underground instead of on his traditional sleigh, with the rhyme ‘It seems to me that now I'm London bound, I must park the sledge on the outside edge and travel underground'!
The muted pale greens and greys are unusual colours for a Christmas poster.
The poster was designed by Frederick Herrick in 1934 for London Transport.
Frederick Herrick was born in 1887 and died in 1970. He studied at Leicester College of Art and Crafts and the Royal College of Arts. He was a prolific poster designer, also producing posters for the Anchor Line and the Royal Mail steam Packet Company. Most of his London Underground posters were designed for the Baynard Press where he was Head of Studio.
