This poster is another in the style of the bold modernist posters which came about after Frank Pick established a clear corporate design for the Underground Group. The bar and circle logo, or roundel, appeared on everything from vehicles to publicity. This publicity poster was produced in 1929 by Julius Klinger. Julius Klinger, was of German-Jewish descent, and was born in Vienna in 1876 where he studied at the Arts and Crafts Conservatory. Klinger moved from Vienna to Berlin in 1897, where he worked as a commercial graphic artist until 1915 and gained an international reputation by developing a new fashion of functional poster design--using graphics and graphic design to convey the message of the brand. He opened a studio in Vienna in 1918. He is considered to be one of Berlins most noted artists. In 1918, Klinger designed a campaign promoting for 'Tabu' cigarette rolling paper. In 1937 he designed his last poster for the Ankerbrot-Werke factory. During WWII, Klinger suffered persecution and harassment from the Nazis. He was deported to the Minsk Ghetto with his wife Emile in June 1942, where he died.
