Since its creation, this pop-art style print of the London Tube Map has continued to be commercially popular and earned a place in Campaigns list of top 100 posters of the 20th century. This playful take on Harry Beck’s 1933 Underground Map, shows the lines of the tube as they are being created by a ‘tube’ of paint.
‘Tate by Tube’ was commissioned as a part of the Art on the Underground series which worked to bring art back to the Underground network. This poster was created by David Booth of the Fine White Line Agency in 1987, only a year after Art on the Underground was established.
