Fred Taylor was one of Britain’s foremost poster artists from 1908 to the 1940s. This vibrant poster was published in 1922 by London Transport and advertises the tram service from Hammersmith, Wimbledon or Shepherd’s Bush. The image portrays a brightly dressed lady holding a colourful bunch of balloons that hints towards a party atmosphere. Fred Taylor designed posters for the Underground Group and London Transport between 1908 and 1946. Fred Taylor was able to turn his hand to most subjects, he was best known for his posters of buildings and architecture. He lived in London where he was a member of the Art Workers' Guild from 1924. As well as his designs for the Underground and London Transport he also designed for Empire Marketing Board as well as railway and shipping companies. He was also a decorative painter, exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy. Fred Taylor was an official camouflage artist during WWII.
