Metropolitan Railway E Class Locomotive No.1 LU150 Livery
A collectible motorised model of the Metropolitan Railway E Class Locomotive No.1 LU150 Livery has been produced by Rapido Trains UK exclusively for London Transport Museum.
About the Metropolitan Railway E Class No.1
Designed by T F Clark, the Locomotive Superintendent, this was the first class of locomotive designed entirely by the Metropolitan Railway. The first three were built at Neasden Works and were numbered 77, 78 and 79 although the latter became number 1 when it entered the service. Orders were planned for many more, but the rapid development of the electrification scheme meant that just four more were built by R & W Hawthorn Leslie & Co in 1900 and 1901.
The usual duties of these locomotives were on trains to Aylesbury although number 1 played a special role in the opening of the Uxbridge branch on Monday 4th July 1904, when it was decorated with flags and flowers on the inaugural service from Baker Street.
