The Chiltern Hills are a chalk range of hills running for about 45 miles to the north west of London. London Underground's Metropolitan line runs to Amersham and Chesham, two towns that are within the area now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). A recent achievement in the Chiltern Hills AONB has been the successful reintroduction of the Red Kite bird of prey, once hunted to extinction and now staging a magnificent comeback.
